Bio
...laughing at the dark...
the tenth doctor / the valeyard

He's is largely who his former companions remember him to be, cheerful, eccentric, dithering on and on about one thing or another. He still smiles, he still laughs, sporting a long coat and terrific hair. Sometimes they'll catch glimpses of him, moving in and out of their lives. No one forgets the sound of the TARDIS engines. With his companions gone, however, life has become a little lonelier for him...

Time has passed without remark. He's quieter, more subdued. There is a coldness that lurks behind his eyes that was not always there. The Doctor spends his days traveling with the TARDIS as his only companion, watching the passage of time from the silence of his ship.

"I think you need someone to stop you..."

There is no one now.
There has not been anyone in years.

"He will knock four times." The Doctor never did go back to traveling. Rose and the metacrisis whisked off to another dimension to stay safe forever with a piece of his TARDIS. Martha and her husband, together, and Donna. Poor, wonderful Donna. Well, she'd never remember him, and it was probably for the better anyway.

The realization came to him that he always ended up alone. Always.

He didn't "move on" as he always did. There was too much hurt. That lead weight in his chest ached and ached and ached, and there was nothing he could do, no one he could find or turn to. He turned around and flung his TARDIS to the farthest reaches of time and space, and stared out into the blackness for sixty years. Alone. There were times when he'd go to other places, other times. He met Professor River Song, loved her desperately, tried to fill the blackness in him with her - and it didn't work, of course. Nothing ever did, and one day, when she stormed out of the TARDIS for what must have been the hundredth time, he closed the door behind her and flew away, back out to the end of the galaxy. He'd go back, he thought, he'd turn around, and he'd just... go back. He never did. He couldn't bring himself to.

Whether it was his own pride or the blackness at his center, he never returned to River Song, or to her world. So he stared into that blackness, alone but for the singing of his ship, that, for all her efforts and all her love, could not bring the light back into his eyes.
